It was a very boring night that I couldn’t sleep like many other nights, so I started to google “family.” When I typed the word “family” into the search board, there were 173,000,000 results came up in 0.11 seconds. Scanned through those results, I found Wikipedia provides a very thorough description of a family.

According to the page, family isn’t as simple as blood related. However, there are many different types of family. So far, I’ve learn four new terminologies that we might have seen every now and then but often sled it through. Have you ever heard of conjugal family, consanguineal family, matrilocal family, and patriarchal family? I’ve heard of conjugal functions in many science lectures, and patriarchal in one of mine feng shui books. Yet, other terms; I’ve never heard of. Therefore, not only my 7 yrs old daughter need to learn vocabularies, but I also need to upgraded  my vocabularies as well.

Here is my homework of the day:

Conjugal family: includes only the husband, the wife, and unmarried children who are not of age. This also known as nuclear family.

Consanguineal family: consists of a parent and his or her children, and other people. (It’s quite confused here; If there is a just a parent and children, then it could be a single family. What about “other people”? Who are those people that we’re talking about? Are they relatives or non-relatives? By the way, just a thought. If anyone knows, please help out.)

Matrilocal family: consists of a mother and her children. Most of the time, this type of family referred to a single mom with her biological offspring, and adoption of children might be considered one.

Patriarchal family: a model of the triangle family that has been isolated from the outside, husband-wife-children. This also known as oedipal model of the family.

Whichever types of family that we’re in, there is a very important meaning of a family; which is related, and I’m not talking about blood related here. However, a family is a unit that related by love and care. Therefore, cherish for what you have and care for those you loved!
